Stamp Society

an exclusive hybrid pixel-club/webring
The Stamp Society Webring is an invitation-only chain of personal websites. Each member represents their site with a unique pixel postage stamp, creating a curated collection.

Membership is referral-based: each invited member may extend only one invitation to somebody new. The ring is one continuous sequence that leads from the first stamp to the latest, like any other webring. This rule forms a chain of referrals, a little postal club on the web at truly a snail's pace.

You can view the member directory on this page and all the stamps submitted by members, displayed as a gallery.

Code

Every member embeds a widget snippet on their site. It's on the larger side as far as webring widgets tend to go. It displays:
  1. The previous member in the chain and their stamp/link
  2. Webring title and link
  3. A random page in the lineage
  4. Your stamp
  5. The next member in the chain and their stamp/link
When a viewer enters the widget's viewport for the first time, an animation will play of the book opening and the content fades in. This will only happen once per page load.

You can change the theme by editing the class="standard" portion of the code. Change standard to any of the theme names below. Not setting a valid theme or removing that part of the code will make it default to standard.

There aren't many themes now but I'll add more in the future. Suggestions are welcome via email. Click to preview:

Join

I will personally reach out to extend invites, and any member wishing to use their invite should do the same. No member is required to send out an invite if they don't want to.

Admin retains final control over acceptance, placement and can manage the chain order if maintenance or pruning is required. If the widget breaks or disappears for an extended time from your site, your spot may be temporarily skipped or removed until fixed. If a site remains offline for a long time, it will be pruned to avoid ring breakage (but can return anytime if you email me).

Submission Guidelines

79×43

The stamp must be 79 pixels in width and 43 pixels in height and not exceed 200KB in file size. It is the size of the purple rectangle, not including the border. Please don't include a border with your submission.

Do not submit any explicit or highly NSFW imagery. Nobody wants to see that, or put it on their page.

Acceptable formats: PNG or GIF. Your stamp can be animated, so long as the animations fit within the boundary of the box. The stamp should visually represent your site or self in a way that fits your aesthetic. Other than that there are no rules on how the stamp should look. It doesn't necessarily have to be pixel art, either. It can be as creative or artistic as your desire, it can have text or no text, think of it like making a larger 88×31 button.
